LINEAGE

Original Source:
Pro-shot video. Direct from the production crew. S
everal concert cameras, including on-screen videoclips.
Audio straight from the monitor track.
2h 39m 11s DVD-video weighting 2,39 Gb recorded on a Samsung Pleomax white label DVD.

Video: MPEG-2 video at 352X480 pixels, 29.97 fps. 4:3, NTSC
Audio: 2 channels stereo at 48.000 hz
The sound is direct from the mixing desk and has the “click track” (metronome). Despite having 2 channels, this happens to be a low-volume non-stereo mix for sound monitoring. Rather seems a monoaural fed. No stereo effects can be heard.

This “first generation source DVD” was bought somewhere in Bogotá on April 2nd 2007. It has a generic stand alone recorder menu with no buttons for track or chapter selection. The only title track was divided into 28 chapters of 5 minutes each.

The great fault of this DVD was the absence of image for the first songs of the show: there were some 25 minutes or so of black screen.

The other fault is the lack of the old music introduction.

Living in Colombia, Niebla de Fuego used this “original” DVD, and didn’t use the any internet/torrent DVD file as source.

THE NIEBLA DE FUEGO RELEASE

For each DVD (main feature):

Video: MPEG-2 video at 720X480 pixels, 29,97 fps., 4:3, NTSC 5.000 Kb/s
Audio: 2 channels stereo, 48.000 hz at 256 Kb/s and a selectable monoaural track, 48.000 hz at 256 Kb/s.
Subtitles: English/Spanish selectable from the setup menu or the “subtitle” button on the remote control (subtitles to the lyrics and speeches).

Video for the first song of the show was restored using footage from the film crew, fan shots and cell phone videos. A new two and a half minutes introduction deleted from the first bootleg was restored into this release.

DVD1: 4,21 Gb
DVD2: 4,26 Gb

RUNNING TIME:
Concert: 2H : 34m
Extras: 1H : 42m
Total running time for this Roger Waters Live at Bogotá Release: 4H : 16m

VIDEO AND AUDIO EDITION

Extraction
Video was demultiplexed using TMPGEnc 4 to a 1,8 GB AVI file at 720X480 pixels using the original 1.643 kbps. The video was de-interlaced to heal certain distortions. No significant changes in video quality were made, and the forced de-interlacing proved helpful. The audio was extracted direct into a Wav file with no filters or modifications.

Editing
The source video was cut and edited using Adobe Premiere CS3. The patching of the blank parts was done joining everything together in Premiere. The final video was rendered into a 15,3 Gb AVI file for the first part of the show, and a 15,6 Gb file for the second half.

The audio was edited in Adobe Audition. After cutting the blank parts and editing a bit of the lowest volume parts, the track was normalized and equalized to enhance the sound. Since the original audio track had no stereo effects, a new track was created and edited to re-create a stereo feeling on some parts. Both sound tracks are available through the setup menu or the audio/language button in the remote control.

A NOTE ON THE CLICK TRACK AND THE DECISION NOT TO USE AUDIENCE SOUND RECORDINGS:

This DVD uses the original “click” monitor track, and as such the dull metronome sound is still present.

Niebla decided to use this audio source instead of using any non-metronome audio track available such as the Chilean pre-FM master or any audience-recorded MP3 (such as the Mumbai, Buenos Aires or the audio of the Cork Hop the Pond DVD release) in order to be as faithful as possible to the concept of this DVD being THE Bogotá concert. Hence, to offer the sound that was heard on the night of March 9th.

Although a couple of audience MP3 recordings of the Bogotá show are available, they are of very low quality and recorded more noise than music. Reason Being that they were recorded either using crappy USB MP3 players with integrated monoaural microphones, or cell phones.

Should a hi-quality stereo Mini Disc audience audio recording of March 9th surfaces, it may be used in a future re-release of this DVD. However, that possibility is close to nil.

AUTHORING

The DVDs were authored using TMPGEnc DVD Author 3, which is quite friendly and reliable (not to mention fast) to offer a high quality amateur DVD release.

RESTORING THE VIDEO

On March 9th 2007, Roger Waters presented his “Dark Side of the Moon Live” tour in Bogotá. A professional recording of this show was made. However, the unofficially released film of the concert lacked video for the first songs of the show. It also lacked the radio introduction, and the beginning of some songs.

In this equally unofficial DVD release the video has been restored using footage from the film crew, interspersed with fan shots and cell phone videos, while preserving the original audio and video from the first generation source film. The full introduction was also restored, and some other patches were made.

Given the diverse nature of the video sources, image quality may vary noticeably where fixing was made.

Niebla de Fuego thanks RM, NA, and the guys at KV for providing the different video fillers which allowed the restoration of the blank parts of the film.

MENUS AND SAMPLE SCREEN CAPTURES

The menus for this release are custom-made and were prepared in TMPGEnc DVD Author as part of the authoring process. This was a great tool which produced a very good menu system.

They have background non-disturbing music, and the buttons and selection items are readable and usable.

Niebla de Fuego believes the menus on this DVD are by far the most beautiful and user-oriented menus ever seen on any recent Roger Waters/Pink Floyd bootleg DVD releases around the world.

Menu Artwork
Most of the artwork is original and was designed exclusively for this DVD release. Geometric graphics and non-photographic images were worked on Photoshop CS3

The modern light prism design with curvy colour bands was created by Arvid for the artwork of the cover of the
Yeeshkul distribution of the first generation DVD.

Niebla de Fuego thought that such design was just wonderful, and decided to use it on the menus of the second disc. After asking for permission (under Niebla’s account on Yeeshkul), Arvid kindly authorized the use of his nice light prism design.

Very Special Thanks go to Arvid for permitting the use of his artwork that graces some submenus of this DVD.

Another nice graphic used was the cover of the Official Programme. This one was kindly provided by Cypher at
pinkfloyd.cl. Thanks a lot Cypher ^_^¡

The pictures of Roger Waters and the satellite were taken from different official sources.

SUBTITLES & TRANSLATION

This is probably the first Roger Waters Live VOIO ever displaying subtitles in two languages (English/Spanish).

The reasons for the subtitles are:
· Niebla de Fuego loves to play with the programs and resources available.
· Niebla loves the English language as well as the Spanish Mother Tonge.
· Niebla has a major on Modern Languages & English Philology and likes to show off.
· Niebla wanted to create a very professionally crafted DVD.
· Niebla is a geek.

English Subtitles:
All lyrics were taken from different sources, mainly the CD booklets of the original album releases. Since in some cases the lyrics vary when performed live, they were revised and corrected to suit the changes present on the live performances of the songs. For the speech parts Niebla used a careful ear.

Spanish Subtitles:
Niebla translated all the lyrics using techniques obtained in English Translation courses taken at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia.

Timing the Subtitles:
This was the most time-consuming task. I spent several weeks revising the subtitles, timing every little bit, correcting the translations… hope you like the result.
